Jaques: Jaques, a melancholy lord attending the banished Duke Senior in As You Like It, is best known for his speech on the seven ages of man. The name Jaques was pronounced Jakes in Shakespeare's time.
Surprisingly, there is another character in As You Like It named Jaques. Jaques de Boys, the brother of Oliver and Orlando, is a minor character and only appears in the final act.
