Shakespeare's Epitaph

Tuesday August 16, 2005
Shakespeare is buried in the chancel of Holy Trinity Church in his hometown of Stratford, Warwickshire. His gravestone bears an epitaph which Shakespeare himself supposedly wrote. It warns:

Good friend for Jesus sake forbeare,
To dig the dust enclosed here.
Blessed be the man that spares these stones,
And cursed be he that moves my bones.

Good frend for Iesus sake forbeare
To digg the [t and h connected] dvst encloased heare [h and e connected]
Blese be ye [e over Y] man yt [t over Y) spares thes stones
And cvrst be he yt [t over Y] moves my bones.
