I never liked Oasis. Now I know why.

In an interview with the London Evening Standard, Noel Gallagher slammed Shakespeare as "f***ing gibberish". I can only describe this as an intelligent, well-formulated and insightful way to approach the work of our planet's greatest ever poet and playwright.

Gallagher. This is the man who penned the lyric: "Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball. Where were you while we were getting high?" ... so, err, he has ever right to criticize Shakespeare.

When asked about the last play he had seen, Gallagher replied:

Hamlet with Jude Law. It's four hours long and there wasn't one single minute that I knew what was going on. I was thinking, 'I know they're speaking English but it's just all f***ing gibberish.' I can appreciate the acting and the way they learned all those lines but... what the f*** was going on?

Well, at least he gave it a go!

I like Oasis. I like Noel Gallagher. Which is why I hope Noel gives it another go with the Bard, by next time reading the play first. Thing is, Shakespeare is not an easy read. It takes work, but it pays off. Go for it, Noel!

Oh come on! Shakespeare is confusing as all hell. Who cares about literary merit if you can’t understand what the hell anyone is even saying? I never understood Shakespeare, and I don’t care if I get branded as unintelligent or daft. I agree with Mr. Gallagher. He has a right to his own opinion. Regardless of what Shakespeare did for writing in the past, his work isn’t relevant to anymore, at least to me. The world’s “greatest poet and playwright” according to whom?
